URGENT Afghanistan Update. Please share.

Received:

As at August 28th at 19:30hrs (Local). The final UK flight for civilians has now left #Kabul Further UK flights leaving in the next 72-hours will be for Diplomatic Staff and Military Personnel only.

The US has advised all of its citizens at or near: Abbey Gate, North Gate, East Gate, and the New Ministry of Interior Gate, at #KabulAirport to leave the vicinity immediately.

The US will continue to evacuate until the last minutes of the 31st, but continue to advise against travelling to Kabul, and the Airport, unless personnel have obtained specific instruction to do so from a US Government Representative.

The US Embassy has warned that there is a “high threat of terror attack”. This comes after the #USMilitary conducted a retaliation strike against an IS Militant who they believe was responsible for the suicide bombing attack at Abbey Gate that killed 170 people, including 13 US Military personnel.

ALL commercial flights remain suspended, other than those being coordinated by #coalition forces to facilitate evacuations.

ALL foreseeable future civilian flights into and out of Afghanistan are suspended by airlines and private charter companies until further notice.

Afghans hoping to leave the country are now being advised by the UN to head toward the #Pakistan border. The Spin Boldak-Chaman land border has remained open where it’s estimated in the past three-days, over 200,000 Afghans have crossed.

Pakistan has said it will not accept any #refugees only those who need urgent #medicalassistance or have proof of residence.

There has also been several reports of shots being fired at groups of Afghans as they attempt to reach the border, and yesterday shots were fired by Pakistani Soldiers into the crowd, killing six, as they attempted to #crowdcontrol

ALL foreign citizens left behind are being advised to shelter in place, ideally away from Kabul. At present, it’s estimated there are still 1,000+ Americans, 100+ Britons, and tens of thousands of eligible Afghans who have not been evacuated. There’s also citizens from other countries who have chosen to stay.

All Coalition Military Personnel will depart Afghanistan before the deadline of Midnight on the 31st. At that point, the #Taliban will have full control of Afghanistan. This will include ownership of billions of dollars worth of military equipment that has been left behind, including aircraft, armoured vehicles, weapons systems, and #biometric equipment that was used to register and log all Afghan staff who worked for coalition forces.

There is credible intelligence that the Taliban have been doing door-to-door searches looking for Afghans who worked for coalition forces.

The Taliban have also released thousands of ISIS-K Militants from two US prisons in Kabul.

Needless to say, the situation in Afghanistan, without scaremongering, really is worst case scenario, not only for those still stuck there, but for the future of the country.
