ISAF Joint Command morning operational update: 20 October 2012

North

An Afghan and coalition force arrested a number of insurgents during a security operation in search of a Taliban leader in Kunduz province today. The leader is suspected of being involved in the planning and facilitation of attacks on Afghan and coalition forces.

South

An Afghan and coalition security force killed an armed insurgent who was preparing to attack Afghan and coalition forces during a security operation in Kandahar province Friday.

Afghan Uniformed Police and Coalition Forces provided critical medical aid to an elder who had been shot in Zabul province Thursday. After returning to the area, the AUP apprehended a number of individuals for questioning.

Afghan Special Police of Provincial Response Company Uruzgan, enabled by coalition forces, detained one insurgent, killed several enemy fighters and seized a cache of weapons, ammunition and narcotics in Uruzgan province yesterday. The combined force discovered 60 kilograms (132 pounds) of narcotics, several hand grenades and weapons, as well as several hundred rounds of ammunition. All seized materials were destroyed on site.
