We begin to move back the way we came. The Soldier who had been leading the way took us on an unplanned tour of farming fields. The red light in this photo is from the map check as we walk back down the file.
Back the way we came.
We reach the helicopter landing zone just in time to be reminded by the Milky Way that we are a bunch of ants in an ant war.
An aircraft traces overhead.
Sergeants and officers are counting heads, and recounting, and recounting everyone again before the helicopters arrive. They don’t want to leave anyone behind, or find that a Punjabi Cell member has secretly joined our file (an old enemy tactic from other wars), who might like to board a helicopter wearing a bomb.
An aircraft cuts through the night. It would be difficult to sneak in close to us but it could be done so everyone must stay alert.
The helicopter is on the way and so a trooper paints the landing zone with an IR laser.
A helicopter lases back, though to the naked eye all is dark.
