ISAF Joint Command morning operational update: 01 December 2012

North

An Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation in Pul-e Khumri district, Baghlan province, today that resulted in the death of the local Taliban leader Hanif and one other insurgent. Hanif oversaw the movement of suicide bombers throughout the province, and gave direct assistance to more senior Taliban leaders in Baghlan.

Yesterday, in Sar-e Pul district, Sar-e Pul province, an Afghan and coalition security force arrested two insurgents during an operation in search of a Taliban leader who controls insurgents in Jowzjan and Sar-e Pul provinces. He is also responsible for conducting attacks against Afghan and coalition forces in both provinces.

South

An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a local Taliban leader and detained two suspected insurgents during an operation in Washer district, Helmand province, today. The arrested leader was responsible for planning and coordinating improvised explosive device and direct fire attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He was also responsible for storing weapons and distributing them to insurgent fighters in the region.

In Panjwa’i district, Kandahar province, an Afghan and coalition security force arrested a local Taliban leader and detained one suspected insurgent during an operation today. The arrested leader carried out attacks against Afghan and coalition forces, and oversaw the emplacement of improvised explosive devices throughout eastern Panjwa’i district.

East

An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Haqqani facilitator in Pul-e ‘Alam district, Logar province, today. The facilitator coordinated the movement of weapons and ammunition into Logar province and then distributed them to insurgent fighters in the region.

In Khugyani district, Nangarhar province, today, an Afghan and coalition security force arrested two insurgents during an operation in search of a Taliban facilitator. During the operation, the security force seized 227 kilograms (500 pounds) of narcotics, a number of Afghan National Army uniforms, and several weapons.

An Afghan and coalition security force detained several suspected insurgents during an operation in search of a Haqqani leader in Lajah – Ahmad Khel district, Paktiya province, today. The Haqqani leader directs attacks against Afghan and coalition forces and is suspected of involvement in the kidnapping and execution of several Afghan National Army soldiers.
