ISAF Joint Command morning operational update: 08 November 2012

South

An Afghan and ISAF partnered force seized over three dozen one-liter bottles filled with homemade explosives primed with detonating cord and a number of pressure plates during a combined dismounted patrol in Helmand province Tuesday. All items were destroyed at the location.

East

An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Taliban facilitator in Nangarhar province today. As the security force approached the Taliban facilitator’s location, two armed insurgents attacked the combined force with small-arms fire. The security force returned fire, killing one armed insurgent and wounding the second. The arrested facilitator enabled the distribution of weapons, ammunition, improvised explosive devices and suicide vests for use in attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. The security force also arrested two suspected insurgents and seized several grenades and an assault-style rifle with associated gear and ammunition.
